Dental Terms and Definitions
Annual Maximum: the most a plan will pay in a year for all of your combined services
Deductible: the amount you must pay out of your own pocket before a plan will cover anything for those services
Waiting period: the length of time you must have a plan before those benefits will be covered by the insurer.
Co-insurance: the percentage the insurance company will pay for a service and the percentage you will pay out of pocket for a service.
Lifetime Maximum: the most a plan will pay for those services in your lifetime
Reasonable and Customary charge/fee: the payment amount for a service that is deemed as acceptable by an insurer or dentist.
Percentile: the percent out of 100 dentists in the area who generally have the same reasonable and customary charge/fee.
